Villa v Tottenham: Vertonghen - Benteke impact is no surprise
Jan Vertonghen has hailed the impact Christian Benteke has made on the Barclays Premier League stage - as he prepares for a duel with his international team-mate this evening.
Benteke and Vertonghen became the latest Belgian stars to make their mark in English football when they moved from Genk and Ajax respectively earlier this term.
They have also played together regularly in a talented Belgium national side which includes the like of Chelsea's Eden Hazard, Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany, West Brom's on-loan striker Romelu Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini of Everton.
Benteke has made an impressive start to life at Villa with eight goals in all competitions.
But the 22-year-old's impact has come as little surprise to his compatriot Vertonghen.
"It doesn't surprise me that he has done well," said the Spurs defender.
"He now feels the confidence of the team, the crowd and manager, and the last two or three games for the national team he was very, very good.
"He is very good in the air and he can score.
"He will be a very tough player to play against.
"Aston Villa made the right choice to sign him."
