Baker upbeat about festive run-in after "coming-of-age week"

Nathan Baker says Villa will go into the Christmas period in buoyant mood after a "coming-of-age week" for the young side.

The boys in claret and blue recorded convincing wins at Norwich in the Capital One Cup and Liverpool in the Barclays Premier League.

And Baker believes the remarkable five-day period could prove to be a big turning point for Paul Lambert's youthful outfit.

Now the 21-year-old is relishing the festive fixtures as Villa look to build on back-to-back victories.

"It has definitely been a bit of a coming of age week for us reaching a cup semi-final and then beating Liverpool," said Baker.

"We have been on a great cup run and it's great to transfer some of those performances into the league games.

"There are some big games now in a busy festive period but we're definitely up for it.

"I'll sleep well over the next few weeks, that's for sure!"

Baker was a key figure in Saturday's win at Anfield with some crucial blocks and challenges.

He lined up in a back three alongside fellow academy graduates Chris Herd and Ciaran Clark and the trio were successful in shackling Liverpool's danger man Luis Suarez.

"We did all of our video research on him [Suarez] last week so we knew what to expect from him," he added.

"I'd watched him in other games on television against other teams as well. We did well.

"I grew up with Ciaran Clark and Chris Herd throughout the club's academy so we know each other's game pretty well, and like to play with each other.

"A lot of the young lads have won the reserve league together so hopefully we can do well with the first team now."

Make sure you back the boys against Tottenham.
