Liverpool v Villa: Lambert - We can replicate cup goal form
Paul Lambert wants Villa to transfer their cup goalscoring form into top-flight games - and the boss is confident they can do so.
Lambert says there's "not a straight answer" about why Villa can find the net so easily in the Capital One Cup but not so much of late in the Barclays Premier League.
Manager Lambert intimated it was just the simple element of luck that was the difference.
Asked about the difference between the cup and the league, Lambert said: "I don't think there is a straight answer to that because we've always looked threatening.
"Even against Stoke, where it finished 0-0, we had chances to score. The ball just never bounced the right way at certain times.
"At QPR, we might have got one or two more. So the goal-scoring has never been a problem.
"I know we scored four at Man City and Norwich but I don't think there is too much significance with that into why we are not doing it in the league.
"We've had great chances to score in the league.
"I don't prepare any differently for cup and league games. I don't change much on the philosophy which is about trying to win games.
"On Tuesday, it went our way. I thought we were excellent.
"The keeper made some really good saves in the first half and we had some other good chances ourselves.
"We were always a threat and were absolutely ruthless in our finishing."
Make sure you back the boys against Tottenham.
