Villa Ladies 1-0 West Brom Ladies: Follis fires Villa into last eight
Emma Follis' first-half strike was enough to ensure second place in Group 3 for Villa, who will now advance to the last eight.
The girls in claret and blue made a positive start with Follis, Erin Vaughan and Olivia Fergusson all forcing the Baggies goalkeeper into fine saves.
The decisive goal came after 27 minutes with a move that started and ended with Follis.
After winning the ball on the half-way line, Follis motored into the box and met a lay-off from Carly Davies to fire home her third goal in two games.
Davies, who returned in place of the injured Katie Wilkinson, had an effort disallowed for offside soon after as Joe Hunt's team continued to dominate.
It was all Villa again after the break with Sherry McCue and Natalie Gibson both hitting the crossbar.
As Villa pressed for a second, Albion were able to exploit the space at the back but rarely threatened the home side's goal.
Coach Hunt said: "Considering we hadn't played for two weeks they got straight into the game.
"The tempo was high but they stuck to the game plan.
"Again the pitch was poor so we had to find the grass areas down the side.
"Follis and Fergusson were superb in support of Carly Davies.
"We were dominant throughout the game but the scoreline doesn't suggest that.
"It's been the story of our season that we create a lot of chances but don't take them.
"That's being slightly harsh on the girls, though, as they have won six on the bounce and not conceded a goal in five.
"But to be fair to the group they are always striving to be better."
