Although the goalless draw against Stoke was short of major incidents, there were several standout performances from a Villa point of view.

Villa's central defensive unit of Ciaran Clark, Chris Herd and Nathan Baker was rock solid.

Paul Lambert's team managed to shut out the Potters to record their third clean sheet in the last four games.

Midfield pass-master Ashley Westwood also produced another exceptional display.

The former Crewe playmaker barely wasted a pass in another accomplished performance.

There was also another industrious effort from Australian midfielder Brett Holman.

Christian Benteke proved a handful once more and on another day he could have had a couple of goals.

Matt Lowton, who operated in a wingback role, impressed at both ends of the field.
