Villa 0-0 Stoke manager verdict: Lambert sees "plenty of positives"
Paul Lambert said there were "plenty of positives" as Villa drew with Stoke.
Lambert was happy with the way his young and emerging team stood up to the physical threat of the Potters - but also imposed their delicious passing game on proceedings.
He was also happy with the chances created but just frustrated that no-one could find the necessary finishing touch.
He said: "I thought we dominated the game. Definitely.
"I was delighted with the way we coped with Stoke's strength. I was asked how we would combat that at the press conference before the match.
"I thought we used our strength and we tried to play football too.
"I thought we were excellent in certain parts of the game. On another day we might have had one or two.
"We restricted Stoke to one or two chances. We might have had a penalty with Gabby. But I can't fault them in the way they played.
"I see the quality every day in training. I trust them. Some of the football has been very, very good.
"If we can just get the finishing touch, on another day we might have had one or two. It just didn't materialise.
"We passed it really well. Ashley Westwood was again excellent. There were a lot of pluses out there, the way we dominated the game with the ball.
"On another day we might have got one or two. But it's not something I'm actually overly worried about. Because I know it will come. I have belief that we will create and that we will score. I have always had that belief."
Lambert again elected to go with a three-man backline and was thrilled with the effort and endeavour of his players.
He added: "They have done really fine. The three lads from last week to this week I thought have done great.
"Chris has not played in a long time due to his injury. Nathan and Ciaran have been excellent. Chris was excellent last week and this week I thought he was excellent again.
"They coped brilliantly with Stoke's strength."
Make sure you back the boys against Tottenham.
