Exclusive: Westwood - I'm improving every day here at Villa
Ashley Westwood says he's "improved massively" as a player since joining Villa - and wants that rapid progression to continue.
Westwood has been a revelation in claret and blue since the Sunderland game, excelling in subsequent matches and impressing fans and pundits with his high-level passing and tackling ability.
His stats are remarkable, clocking up between 86% and 94% in pass completion figures since that Stadium of Light clash.
He may have only been at Villa for three months but he says his game has come on in that short space of time.
Now he aims to progress further.
He said: "I have improved massively since being here. People may be surprised to hear that since I've only been here for a few months. But I can't understate that point. My game has definitely gone up a level.
"I feel sharper. And that's down to training here every day. It's incredible. It's fast, high-energy drills and it's been terrific to be part of.
"The training really has been unbelievable. That's the big thing I have noticed since arriving. It is so sharp and if you're not on it every day in training, you get found out.
"The drills are fantastic, so enjoyable. It's all snappy stuff - one and two touch - that suits me down to the ground - working on possession. It's terrific.
"You need to be sharp, on it, switched on every day or you won't play. That's the level of competition we've got and it's tremendous to be part of.
"Being involved in the games has obviously been great too, a dream-come-true really. Playing in the Premier League is what you aim for when you're a young lad making your way in the game.
"I strive to keep improving my game now. That's my focus. I want to keep improving and progressing as a player. And I also want to help Villa kick on and move up the table.
"One thing is for sure, having been here for a short time, I know I can develop with the manager and his staff.
"From day one, the gaffer has just been unbelievable. I really can't thank him enough.
"He made me feel totally at home and he's given me a chance in the Barclays Premier League.
"When I first arrived, I chatted to him and he was very clear in terms of his vision for the club. He told him he was looking for young, hungry players to progress this club. That's something I want to be part of.
"Since that first discussion, he's shown real faith in me putting me in the side. I want to repay him now for that faith."
