QPR v Villa: Lambert stresses that Benteke is a humble hero
Instead of showing an exuberant ebullience after scorching on to the Barclays Premier League scene in claret and blue, Benteke has got his head down and kept a low profile.
Benteke is a popular figure in the dressing room with his pals and likes a laugh but he's very keen to improve as a player and knows this will come through working hard and listening to Lambert and his fellow lieutenants on the training ground.
Lambert said: "The fans sing his name constantly and I think he's been exceptional.
"People forget he is only 21 years of age. He's going to make mistakes and is not the finished article by any stretch of the imagination but he is playing really well.
"His goal ratio for us is very high and also for the national team.
"He's leading the line brilliantly in the system we have played but he has a lot of work to do himself.
"He has been great to work with and like I've said before, he can be anything he wants to be.
"He'll talk away to you and has a really good manner. Christian is really humble which I think is a great thing for a footballer.
"If he keeps that way he'll have a massive career in the game. He has been totally great for me and his work ethic is fantastic.
"He is a proper young lad. He is well-mannered and humble with what he is trying to do. He is an extremely good footballer.
"I don't want to say he is the complete player because he is not. But he has been absolutely brilliant.
"He is leading the line exceptionally well."
Benteke, of course, is one of Lambert's signings for Villa.
But the manager is keen to stress that it's not only the new recruits he's been delighted with.
He added: "Look at people like Ciaran Clark. It's certainly not just ones I've brought in. Any player that it is doing well you get great satisfaction from.
"They are playing really, really well. Andreas Weimann has been exceptional.
"Barry Bannan probably wasn't on his game as much as usual on Tuesday night but he kept taking the ball and never hiding from it which is a great trait for a footballer.
"Even when things aren't going your way you should never stop taking the ball."
Snap up your tickets and back the boys against Stoke.
