Villa v Reading: Bannan says opposition will be royally respected
Barry Bannan insists Villa will treat Reading with the same respect as Man Utd, Man City and Arsenal as Lambert's Lions look to feast on three points.
Bannan insists there are "no mugs" in the Barclays Premier League but hopes Villa's upward curve continues against the Royals.
Villa played some entertaining and enterprising football against the Gunners and Bannan hopes this continues on Tuesday as the claret and blues eye their second win on home soil this term.
The in-form midfield ace says, however, that Villa will give Reading their total respect.
He said: "Every game is so difficult in the Barclays Premier League. You can't underestimate any team. We have to be ready from the first whistle.
"The mindset is exactly the same as Man Utd, Man City and Arsenal. We have to keep going.
"Reading are a newly-promoted side who are fighting for their lives so it will be a tough game. We certainly won't take them lightly. We will go out there and try to perform.
"There are no mugs in this league. It's the best league in the world.
"You're not going to just turn up and turn teams over. You have to fight and work hard for your points.
"All the boys in the changing room know that. We will come out Tuesday and give them the respect they deserve. Hopefully we will perform and get the three points."
Despite results so far this season - and the lowly league position - Bannan insists the Villa camp is happy, harmonious and hungry for points.
He added: "In that changing room we have quality. Yes we're young but we have confidence in our ability. We want to shoot up the table.
"We have played well over the last few weeks and played good football. It's just that results haven't gone our way on the whole. We were two-up against Man Utd and lost after performing well for over an hour.
"We held our own against another top team in Arsenal and picked up a point so we've taken a lot of positives from these matches. We will take that into the game on Tuesday and try to get the win."
