![]()
The boys in claret and blue played their part in an evenly-matched first half in the clash at Bodymoor Heath. Tony McAndrew's team were boosted by the return to fitness of full-backs Lewis Kinsella and Josh Webb, who were given 45 minutes each. Nevertheless, it was United who created the better chances and took the lead on 50 minutes. Adnan Januzaj's dangerous cross from the left wing was met by James Wilson. Wilson's first-time effort was saved by Calum Barrett but Weir was well placed to convert the rebound. Then on 70 minutes substitute Barmby doubled the advantage from the penalty spot. He tricked and twisted his way towards goal before being tripped inside the Villa box. Barmby stepped up to slot past goalkeeper Barrett. VILLA: Barrett, Lyden, Kinsella, Melvin, Bateman, Lewis, Graham, Crowley, Eminoglu, Ward, Calder. Subs: Webb [for Kinsella, HT], Hill, Strain, Crooks [for Eminoglu, 68], Wildin [for Lyden, 60].
