Petrov AVTV exclusive: Stan emotional at charity match turnout

Skipper Stan Petrov was immensely emotional as he spoke of his delight at the terrific turnout for the charity game in his honour.

Over 2,000 supporters - including former Villa stars Ashley Young and Gareth Barry as well as Baggies ace James Morrison - were on hand to watch the match between Petrov XI and Lions/Legends XI, a game which finished 7-6 in favour of the captain's side.

Petrov spoke exclusively and extensively to AVTV after the match to offer his thanks to the support on the day - and throughout his time battling leukaemia.

He said: "It was great and the turnout was just unbelievable. I was very emotional. To see so many people turnout for this game was just great.

"The fans have been supportive from the start to the present day. Even now - t's been eight months of treatment - they still support me.

"I still get cards. I get messages. I get everything to support me through this. It's been great!

"As for the game, it was two good sides! It was very exciting.

"Both teams worked very hard. I was impressed."
