Man City v Villa match preview: We have no trepidation insists Lambert
Paul Lambert agrees that Manchester City have a "class team" ahead of this weekend's meeting but insists Villa will face them with "no trepidation."
Lambert believes the cup win over the Etihad Stadium outfit - a tremendous 4-2 win on foreign soil - will have given his players plenty of belief.
But he knows Saturday's Barclays Premier League game will be a completely different encounter.
Lambert, however, insists his players will not be intimidated by the championship-chasers.
He said: "The cup win will give them a bit of belief but it is a completely different game. It will be different personnel that will play.
"But they have done it once and that will be in their heads.
"I know how hard it is going to be but we are playing well enough to cause them trouble.
"Nobody expects you to win these games but ourselves.
"We never got the result against Man Utd but we took a lot of positives out of the game.
"I know it's a really tough game but I have belief in my team that we will do the best we can to win.
"You have to try to impose yourself. As long as we have the belief!
"If they keep doing what they are doing, they will win more games than not.
"It is a true saying you can lose a game in the tunnel if you are intimidated and think not earned the right to play someone. But we have, we have earned that right! And we will go up there and try and win.
"I don't go with any trepidation. At the end of the day, what will happen and happen, but we are definitely going to try and win the game.
"We are up against a top side, no doubt. They've got Real Madrid in midweek but the club is flooded with star players. But we've been up there before and won and the confidence is high. That's a good thing.
"The lads are confident they can go up there and do well.
"I don't look on with envy at their team because I don't tend to concentrate on outside matters that don't affect us here.
"They have wealthy owners and they are champions but we will go there and try and win."
