Marc Albrighton and Graham Burke were on target for Villa as they earned a 2-1 win over Sunderland in the Barclays U21 Premier League.

The boys in claret and blue moved up to third in Group 2 with a maximum haul against the Black Cats.

But, despite surging into a two-goal lead, they were forced to survive a second-half onslaught.

Albrighton opened the scoring with a well-struck volley on eight minutes before Burke drove home a second five minutes later.

Further chances fell to Albrighton and Michael Drennan, while Burke was denied by by the Sunderland keeper just after the break.

Alex Gorrin did pull one back for Sunderland on the stroke of half-time but from there on the visitors were unable to find away past Villa's teenage goalkeeper Craig Hill, who was in outstanding form.
