Villa Ladies stars McCue and Mayling win national awards
Two Villa Ladies landed prestigious gongs at the FA Women's Awards.
Senior midfield ace Sherry McCue [pictured] finished second while Sarah Mayling of the U17s finished third in the Young Player of the Year award.
Both collected their prizes at the event, held at the Waldorf Hilton in Aldwych, London, to honour those who have made the biggest impact in the game in 2012.
Alex Greenwood from Everton won the top gong.
McCue is a dynamic, all-action, tough-tackling midfielder who is well-regarded in the senior set-up.
Mayling is quick, direct, technically sound, strong and athletic.
She's one of the hottest prospects in the female game - the complete midfielder.
Joe Hunt, ladies head coach, said: "Congratulations to Sarah and Sherry.
"The whole club are very proud of them. I'm fortunate enough to coach both players.
"They give their all for club and country. They are so dedicated to being the best they possibly can."
England Manager Roy Hodgson and Olympic duo Denise Lewis and Sarah Storey were among the special guests at the event.
Women's football was one of the biggest success stories of the Olympic Games, with Team GB's 1-0 win over Brazil at Wembley a particular highlight.
That game attracted a record crowd for a women's match in Britain - 70,584, a record that was beaten by the 80,203 that attended the Olympic Final between USA and Japan.
