Swindon 2-3 Villa: Agbonlahor says getting through was all that mattered
Gabby Agbonlahor was delighted to help Villa progress to the Capital One Cup quarter-finals, insisting: "Getting through was all that mattered."
Agbonlahor was impressed with Swindon as the Robins flew higher than their League One ranking suggested.
Despite being pegged back after the break, Agbonlahor - who scored a world-class goal on the night insisted that winning the tie and being in the draw on Wednesday was the be-all-and-end-all.
He said: "Swindon did really well and it was a typical cup tie. I was happy to score on the night.
"But more important was the fact we got through to the next round.
"Swindon played some really good football in the second half. Credit to them. They were competitive and made it hard for us.
"If you'd have offered us 3-2 before the game we would have taken it. We just wanted to get the win.
"I think from the fan perspective it was a good night to come and watch."
Agbonlahor was adamant that extra-time, which looked a distinct possibility with minutes remaining, would not have been welcomed by Villa, with a tough game against Sunderland on Saturday on the horizon.
He continued: "There's a game on Saturday so we didn't really want extra-time.
"To get the victory over 90 minutes was big. Hopefully we'll get a good draw in the next round."
Agbonlahor said Villa are taking the Capital One Cup very seriously this term.
He added: "We have played a strong team since the first round. In previous seasons we haven't put out a strong team and we have lost. These cup runs mean a lot to the fans too. It gives them something to look forward to."
