Tuesday media watch [09.10.12 AM]: Clark nets Ireland call-up
Birmingham Mail: Brad Guzan can roar his way into the USA's No.1 jersey, according to fellow countryman Eric Lichaj. The Villa full-back is used to getting an ear-bashing off the giant keeper, dubbed a 'big polar bear' by his claret and blue team-mate, and believes his deafening displays for Villa will help him push Tim Howard all the way for the starting spot.
Birmingham Mail: Ciaran Clark has been called into the Republic of Ireland squad ahead of the World Cup qualifiers against Germany and the Faroe Islands with manager Giovanni Trapattoni facing an injury crisis. Clark was expected to arrive at the Republic's Portmarnock base last night as Trapattoni faced up to the loss of central defender Sean St Ledger and midfielder Glenn Whelan.
Birmingham Mail: This was a disappointing result for Villa, who didn't really start playing until the second half, yet still conceded the two goals that condemned them to their first Barclays Under-21 Premier League defeat. The first period at Villa Park produced little from either side. Jordan Bowery had the ball in the net on 26 minutes, but was clearly offside and seven minutes later the powerful Villa striker forced a save from goalkeeper Jak Alnwick with a good low shot.
Independent: Aston Villa defender Ciaran Clark was yesterday called into the Republic of Ireland squad with manager Giovanni Trapattoni facing injury problems.
