Lichaj: Guzan can roar his way to No.1 for club and country
Brad Guzan has already claimed Villa's No.1 jersey this term - and now he is being backed to do it for his national side.
Fellow American Eric Lichaj has hailed the qualities of Guzan and believes he can challenge Tim Howard all the way to be USA's first-choice goalkeeper.
As well as recognising his shot-stopping abilities, Lichaj has been impressed with the way the 28-year-old marshals his back four.
In fact, the defender has been on the end of several ear-bashings from Guzan!
"I think right now he's No.2 with the USA, but of course he can challenge," said Lichaj.
"He's a really good goalkeeper and I always knew that so hopefully he can challenge for it and get the No.1 spot for USA as well.
"He's very, very vocal and if something's wrong he'll make sure that he lets you know and you'll hear him.
"Usually at the end of the games he's lost his voice and we have to tell him to be quiet!.
"It's not quite got to the stage where I'm hearing his voice in my sleep, he's not that bad, but he's good on the pitch and a good guy off the field as well.
"He's been like that ever since I started watching him."
Lichaj always felt Guzan had the makings of a top keeper after growing up with him at Chicago Fire Premier.
He revealed the "big polar bear" even tried his hand in central midfield as a youngster.
"We were at the same club when I was about 14 and he was doing that even when he was just 18," he added.
"I always watched him play, even though there was a slight age difference and I would see him in different tournaments.
"He would play centre defensive mid sometimes instead of goalkeeper, depending on what the situation was in the game.
"Basically with how big he is now, that's how big he was when he was that age, so you can just imagine some little guys and this guy's towering over you. He's like a big polar bear basically.
"He's alright with his feet, he'll probably say he's better than he is - but he's a better goalkeeper than outfield player, so let's just leave it at that!"
