Villa v West Brom: Delph wants cup feel-good factor to continue

By Dan Harrison

Fabian Delph wants Villa's feel-good factor to continue against West Brom this weekend after revealing the squad are "jumping through hoops" following their heroics at Manchester City.

Delph admits confidence in the claret and blue camp is sky high after Tuesday's Capital One Cup triumph.

But the midfielder has warned against complacency when the Baggies make the short trip to B6 on Sunday.

"Our confidence is very high at the moment," said Delph.

"We are jumping through hoops but we are realistic and we know that because of that performance it doesn't mean we are just going to turn up on Sunday and smash them.

"We have got to work as we did on Tuesday and hopefully we will get the three points.

"There is nothing but positivity from the management and you could see that on the pitch how we stuck together as a team.

"Going to the Etihad, we knew it was going to be a tough night.

"We are a young group of players, we have all got fire in our bellies and we are hungry to do well for the club, for the chairman, for the fans and for the gaffer."

Delph felt the momentum was with Villa going into extra-time against Man City in Tuesday's epic Capital One Cup encounter.

The 22-year-old hailed the belief shown by his team-mates to topple the reigning Barclays Premier League champions.

"After the 90 minutes I was saying to the boys 'we can do this'," he said.

"We can keep the ball, we were comfortable with the ball and we believed it - that was the main thing.

"The manager gave a nice speech before the game and as far as we were concerned we weren't going there to give them respect.

"We were going there to get the win and if it ended up with us having to fight with them and play a few tricks and to twist up the game a bit we were willing to do that.

"We wanted the win and we were confident we could win the game."

Delph said two-goal hero Gabby Agbonlahor proved how vital he is to the Villa cause with a scintillating performance at the Etihad Stadium.

"He summed his performance up with the two goals," he added.

"There is not much I can say about Gabby - he is an outstanding player.

"He has been at the club a long time. He is a fans' hero and he is one of the big figures in the team.

"Nobody was happier for him than me - I was delighted for him."
