Man City v Villa media watch [24.09.12 PM]: Vlaar wants response

Sporting Life: Aston Villa defender Joe Bennett believes the pressure will be off Paul Lambert's side in Tuesday night's Capital One Cup tie against Manchester City following their disappointing defeat against Southampton at the weekend. Villa must now quickly regroup ahead of the cup meeting with the Barclays Premier League champions, and while Bennett is disappointed with his first result in a Villa shirt against Southampton, the 22-year-old is keen to swiftly make amends.

Sky Sports: Aston Villa captain Ron Vlaar has challenged his side to stage an immediate response after a disappointing display against Southampton. Villa took the early lead through Darren Bent at St Mary's on Saturday but went on to collapse in a 4-1 defeat. The Midlanders now face a daunting task away to reigning Premier League champions Manchester City in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday as they bid to recover from the weekend result.

Teamtalk: Ron Vlaar does not want any of his Aston Villa team-mates to feel sorry for themselves in the Capital One Cup against Manchester City after their heavy defeat at Southampton. Villa's new captain has made it clear there is no room for self-pity within the dressing room following the 4-1 loss at St Mary's on Saturday.

Sporting Life: Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini will make wholesale changes for Tuesday's Capital One Cup third-round tie against Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium. None of the players who began Sunday's 1-1 draw with Arsenal is expected to start but substitutes Carlos Tevez and Mario Balotelli are likely to lead the line while youngsters Denis Suarez, Abdul Razaq and Luca Scapuzzi will be in the squad.

Best of the Rest

BBC Sport: England manager Roy Hodgson says he is "disappointed" to learn of John Terry's international retirement but "reluctantly" accepts his decision.

Sky Sports: Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini plans to talk with Mario Balotelli on Monday amid reports the manager pushed him down the tunnel after the draw with Arsenal.

BBC Sport: Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has warned goalkeeper Hugo Lloris not to expect an instant call-up if first-choice Brad Friedel has a bad game.

BBC Sport: Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo says he is "very optimistic" Ashley Cole will sign a new contract at the club.

Sky Sports: Mikel Arteta believes Arsenal's draw against Manchester City proves they can challenge for the Premier League title.
