Man City v Villa: Bennett says team has character to bounce back
Joe Bennett insists Villa owe the travelling support a performance after the frustrating defeat to Southampton.
Bennett says the team was gutted with the loss to the Saints but determined to "move on quickly" and put in a battling display at Manchester City on Tuesday.
Villa's left-back knows it will be a really tough encounter with the Barclays Premier League champions but hopes the away side's underdog status can work in their favour.
Speaking exclusively to AVTV, he said: "The lads were obviously disappointed with the loss. I thought we played well in the first-half and passed the ball around really well. Then it changed after the break. We lost some stupid goals.
"We were down in the dressing room. We came in at half-time with a lead and it slipped away in the second half. But we have the character to bounce back from this definitely.
"We have the cup game at Manchester City on Tuesday. It's good to get a game so quickly to put things right. We want to learn from what's happened and move on quickly.
"You're going to have ups and downs in football, that's part of the game. We're disappointed now but we plan to move on quickly.
"We're going to the Etihad and not many people are expecting us to win. That can be a good thing.
"That can help, when you don't have pressure on you. Hopefully we can go there and do a really good job.
"Our fans were quality. That's the first time I have seen them. They came in massive numbers and sang all game, which was fantastic.
"It's such a shame they had to leave the game with such a disappointing result for their team."
There have been suggestions that City may field a slightly weakened side in the Capital One Cup clash.
But Bennett says that is insignificant because their squad is so strong throughout.
He added: "They have a big, strong squad and I think whoever plays will be of high quality. We have to match them and show the travelling fans that we can get a result."
