McInally: Benteke should feel on top of the world as Holte End hero
Alan McInally says Christian Benteke will be feeling "on top of the world" as the latest Holte End hero.
McInally was the darling of B6 in the late 1980s because of his bruising, bustling and committed style with the nickname 'Rambo' to match.
McInally, now a Sky Sports pundit, was adored by the fans and knows exactly the emotions Benteke will be experiencing after winning over supporters with a classy 20-minute cameo.
There are high hopes for Benteke - and McInally believes he can live up to the hype.
He said: "I hope a new hero has been born. He will be a very lucky man if he becomes a Holte End hero - and a popular player at this football club - because it's a great feeling.
"If you start scoring goals for Villa and playing as a striker up there, there's no better feeling.
"Christian came on as a sub and scored from a defensive mistake but he was still in the right place at the right time to find the net.
"He should be feeling on top of the world because there's no better feeling than scoring at Villa Park.
"He's a big lad and I think he will get better. I think Paul will work on him. It takes time.
"You have to learn things about the guys round and about you. You need to know when to go in early, when to go to the back post...that kind of thing. That will come.
"We didn't see an awful lot of Christian but what we did see was promising."
McInally thinks Darren Bent will thrive alongside Benteke.
He added: "Bent and Benteke has a nice ring to it! Maybe it will be like the old song 'Spinksy, Birchy and Alan McInally.'
"Darren has been crying out for someone to play alongside and help him.
"You can find yourself playing as a lone striker in modern-day football with two wingers either side of you. I think Darren is happy doing that.
"But he's even happier with someone of quality next to him."
