Villa v Swansea legend preview: Rimmer hails "marvellous" Lambert
Jimmy Rimmer believes Villa are in superb hands with Paul Lambert at the helm.
Former No.1 Rimmer hailed the job Lambert did at Norwich as "marvellous" and wants similar steady building progress in B6.
Rimmer will be at Villa Park on Saturday as his former clubs - Villa and Swansea - battle it out for all three points.
Wales-based Rimmer is staying with good mate Ken McNaught this weekend and is relishing the compelling contest.
He said: "The job Paul did at Norwich was marvellous and from what I have seen and from what I hear he wants to play attacking football, which I think will suit Villa down to the ground.
"I won't tell you lies, Villa are a long way away from the success and the good times I was lucky enough to be a part of 30 years ago. They were great days.
"But there's no reason why Paul can't rebuild it steadily and get them climbing the table again.
"I'm looking forward to this weekend. It should be an open match and I suppose I'd better go for a draw to keep my Villa friends and my Swansea friends happy!
"I'm staying with Ken McNaught, who is my best friend, and I'm going to catch up with my favourite ever Villa player, Gordon Cowans, so it should be good fun.
"It will be a tough game. Swansea have been absolutely brilliant over the past few years.
"The football they play is wonderful to watch and they thoroughly deserve to be where they are in the Premier League.
"I did an interview for Sky early last season and they laughed at me when I said they would finish in the top 10. I was only one place out - they were 11th.
"It has been quite some turnaround for them in the last few years because it's not that long ago they were in the bottom division.
"But it just shows what can happen when you do things the right way and hopefully Villa can follow what Swansea have done."
