Villa v Swansea player preview: Westwood can't wait for the cheers!
Ashley Westwood's glass wasn't even half full the last time he was at Villa Park but the next time he steps out on the famous turf he hopes it's overflowing.
Westwood was the in the Crewe side who lost 3-1 to Villa in the FA Youth Cup third round clash of 2007 - in front of just 765 fans.
Ciaran Clark, Andi Weimann, Barry Bannan, Nathan Baker, Marc Albrighton and Nathan Delfouneso were all in the claret and blue side that festive evening while Westwood was Crewe skipper.
Weimann bagged a brace while Bannan finished coolly from the spot to send Villa through.
Westwood wants to create better memories now he's at Villa, starting on Saturday against Swansea.
He said: "I remember that Youth Cup game that night. Delfouneso played up front and he was a handful!
"So I've played here before, but that was in front of a few hundred people so it will be a bit different on Saturday.
"Being a young lad it's where you want to play and playing at places like Villa Park, even for the youth team, makes you want to get down to work and work harder.
"I've been in League Two and I appreciated it, but this is where I want to be now.
"I don't think you fear it, I think it's something that motivates you.
"Instead of a few hundred there's going to be 30,000 here so it's going to be a massive difference, but it's one I'm looking forward too, hopefully, if I'm involved."
Westwood also spoke of his delight at turning out for a club of the magnitude of Villa.
He added: "It's the whole history of the place.
"I remember the FA Cup semi finals were held here at one stage - that Ryan Giggs goal always sticks in your mind.
"It's where you want to play as a footballer and you want to play at all the other Premier League grounds.
"It's football, it's what I want to do and this is just where I want to be playing. It's thousands of people and Villa have got great fans, so I just want to be part of it."
