Villa v Swansea player preview: Bennett will be nervous
Joe Bennett fully expects to be nervous if he's selected to make his debut on Saturday against Swansea - and he wouldn't want it any other way.
Bennett could well make his home bow for Villa this weekend.
The 22-year-old admits he'll be feeling anxious ahead of the Swans test but thinks that's a good thing because heightened emotions improve performance levels.
He said: "I think it's wrong if you're not nervous before a big game!
"You have to have those nerves in your system for those type of moments. I actually think they improve your performance - they make you play well.
"It will be a combination of nerves, excitement, anxiety - all those emotions will go through my body.
"It would mean the world to me if I got the chance to play against Swansea. I don't know if I'm going to be playing - that's down to the gaffer - but if I do, it will be really exciting.
"My family will be up there to watch me. I am really excited about the prospect of it."
Bennett, of course, is one of several young guns in line for their Villa Park debut on Saturday.
He thinks the likes of Ashley Westwood, Christian Benteke and Jordan Bowery will give manager Paul Lambert a "no fear" approach if picked.
He continued: "The gaffer has obviously bought a lot of young players in who are hungry and want to do well for him and for the club.
"As young players you don't have so much fear. You just want to go out there and do the best you can. That's what Paul wants. Hopefully we can gel together and make a real good team for him."
Bennett also believes the crowd will be vital as Villa chase their first maximum haul of the campaign.
He added: "When the fans are behind you, it spurs you on.
"When they cheer you on - whatever the score - it always gives you a chance. They can really get you going."
