Villa to face Tranmere in Capital One Cup second round
![]()
The League One side, managed by Ronnie Moore, are set to travel to Villa Park for the clash after winning 2-1 against Chesterfield in the first round. The tie will bring back memories of Villa's epic semi-final victory over Tranmere on the way to lifting the trophy in 1994. Mark Bosnich was the hero in a dramatic second leg at Villa Park with three penalty saves as Ron Atkinson's side won a shootout. Villa - who have won the League Cup five times - will be looking to better last season's performance in the competition when they reached the third round. The boys in claret and blue earned a 2-0 win over Hereford United in the second round before losing to Bolton Wanderers in round three. Other second round ties in the Capital One Cup include Coventry City v Birmingham City, Sheffield Wednesday v Fulham, Yeovil v West Brom, Everton v Leyton Orient, Walsall v Queens Park Rangers and Northampton v Wolves. Villa's game against Tranmere is set to take place in the week commencing August 27. Click here to buy season tickets for the new term as Villa embark on a vibrant new era. Keywords
