Lambert on Bremen draw: Brace will do Bent the world of good
Paul Lambert hailed Darren Bent's superb double against Werder Bremen, insisting: "It will do him the world of good."
Captain for the evening Bent scored his first goals of the new campaign as Villa completed pre-season with a 3-3 draw against the Bundesliga outfit.
And boss Lambert reckons the club record signing could be invaluable to the claret and blues this term.
He believes the brace against Bremen will serve as a big confidence booster for Bent.
"I think that is goalscorers - they like to live on that and I'm pretty sure this will do him the world of good," said the manager.
"They are invaluable to you - these sort of players who can get a goal out of nothing and that is what happened. He has made a living out of that."
Lambert admits he cannot wait for the real business to get underway when Villa travel to West Ham for next Saturday's Barclays Premier League opener.
The Villa chief has been delighted with the efforts of his squad in pre-season.
"You're playing proper football now," he said. "I'm looking forward to the first game starting but it is a tough game.
"The boys have been really fine - you can't ask any more from their effort.
"We've played some tough games and they have done really, really fine."
Although his side conceded three goals against Bremen, Lambert was happy with the individual displays from central defensive duo Ciaran Clark and Ron Vlaar.
"It's not an individual thing - we'll have a look at that as a team thing. I thought they did really well again," he said.
"It is a tough place to come and everybody can see they are a really good side so we did reasonably well.
Lambert said Matthew Lowton was left out as a precaution after a knock on his ankle in training, while Chris Herd and Nathan Delfouneso missed out with thigh strains.
