Lambert very happy at Peterborough win with youthful side

By Paul Brown

Paul Lambert revealed his delight at the win over Peterborough, especially considering the youthful side he selected for the clash.

Lambert was very happy with the way his Young Lions combined with more experienced pros, like Shay Given, Charles N'Zogbia and Stephen Ireland.

He told AVTV: "I was very pleased, considering how young we were. There were a lot of kids, although obviously Shay, Stephen and Charles are more experienced.

"But there were a lot of young players out there and I was delighted with that.

"Peterborough are a good Championship side and I know from past experience how hard it is to come here.

"Darren has a good team but for us to come here and win with the squad we did was very good.

"Young lads always play without fear. It's when they get experienced that the game changes.

"But the older ones mixed in with the younger ones which I thought was very good."

Lambert also spoke of his joy at the quality of the goals, Daniel Johnson bagging one in the first half and substitute Brett Holman adding to his effort at Burton with an excellent strike at London Road after the break.

Lambert added: "The two goals were great and some of the football we played was excellent.

"I am delighted with what they have done. They have been a credit to the club."
