Wednesday media watch [25.07.12 PM]: Hanks enjoys Portland win

Express and Star: Aston Villa served up a Hollywood ending for watching star Tom Hanks today as Paul Lambert's menclosed their US tour with a shoot-out victory in Portland. Villa and their MLS opponents were level at 2-2 after 90 minutes but the American aversion to draws meant a penalty shoot-out - and all five of the visitors were on target while keeper Brad Guzan defied a last spot-kick from Portland's Bright Dike.

Goal.com: Aston Villa wrapped up their tour of the United States with a penalty shoot-out victory over Portland Timbers after a 2-2 draw. Ciaran Clark and Matt Lowton twice gave Villa the lead from corners but efforts by Sebastian Rincon and Rodney Wallace pegged them back.

Fox Sports: Aston Villa defeated the Portland Timbers in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw in Tuesday's friendly. After both teams successfully converted their first four spot kicks, Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan stopped Bright Dike's penalty.

Metro: Hollywood's biggest Aston Villa fan Tom Hanks was in the crowd to watch his beloved Premier League side beat Portland Timbers on penalties during their pre-season tour of the USA. The Forest Gump and Apollo 13 star has been a Villa fan for over a decade but had never before watched the Villains live.

Sky Sports: Darren Bent has handed Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert a massive boost by insisting he is winning his race to be fit for the start of the season despite his recent injury scare on their tour of the USA. The hitman suffered a minor thigh strain during their pre-season trip in his first run out since rupturing his ankle ligaments in February.

Setanta Sports: Darren Bent has dismissed fears over his fitness after suffering a setback while on pre-season duty with Aston Villa. Bent's season was abruptly ended in February when he ruptured ankle ligaments and while he made good progress it was not enough to enable him to be part of the England squad for Euro 2012.
