USA Tour: Carruthers thinks tour bonding will help during season
Samir Carruthers believes the bonding experience of this USA Tour will have positive repercussions during the season.
Carruthers has loved being part of the first team squad in Philadelphia, Chicago and Portland with positivity pervading all areas of claret and blue life across the pond.
The tricky winger, who bagged the winning penalty against Portland Timbers, has stressed the camaraderie you gain from going away as a squad rather than training day-in and day-out at Bodymoor Heath.
And he believes this solidarity will help in matches during the coming campaign.
He said: "It's been great. It's a new experience for me. The first team went to Hong Kong last time out but I wasn't around at that point.
"It's great being in and around the first team and spending time with them. At the training ground you go in, do your work and then go your separate ways for the rest of the day. But here you're together 24-7.
"It's great bonding to come on tour together. The team spirit has been great. You have to live with each other every day out here. It brings everyone closer.
"You need that during the season too, that togetherness. That's particularly true if you're in hard situations during games in the season, you can draw on that togetherness to get your through."
Carruthers admits he's loving being in and around the first team and says his ultimate aim is making himself a senior regular.
He added: "My aim this season is to get into the first team. Every single player has that same aim. That's where you want to play.
"I am going to work hard to and if it doesn't happen I am going to keep on working towards that aim."
