There's a certain stuffiness about press conferences in the UK.

Before and after every game, the manager enters the room to an eerie silence.

Then he sits behind a desk and peers down at the waiting masses of media people before answering their questions in a very formal manner.

There was, however, none of that at the press conference with Paul Lambert to preview the Portland Timbers game.

The meeting with the media took place out on the pitch.

No table. No microphone. Just men, women, cameras and tape recorders.

There was also no shortage of sound either, as Lambert's Lions prepared for their open training session with a warm-up.

When Lambert had finished, Andreas Weimann - who had been waiting patiently by the manager's side - took his turn at answering questions from the jovial corps of people.
