USA Tour pictures: Images from Villa win over Fire
![]()
To be fair, the Fire faithful continued in good voice throughout the exciting encounter but it was interesting to note that initial song wasn't repeated once Gabby Agbonlahor bagged his first half goal, an effort that ultimately proved to be the winner. It was the least Villa deserved after an impressive and committed display. Skipper Fabian Delph was inspired in the central ground alongside the industrious Stephen Ireland while Agbonlahor terrorised the defence with his pace and grace. The backline, with Shay Given behind them, stood strong too, not allowing Fire any real efforts of note. There were a plethora of changes in personnel through the second period, no surprise really given the heat and humidity in Chicago on the night. Ultimately, Villa emerged victorious, ensuring a confident camp as Paul Lambert's men head to final USA stop Portland. The most impressive element of the evening, however, was the joint applause efforts from both sets of fans in the 19th minute in honour of skipper Stan Petrov, who is battling leukaemia. Fire and Villa supporters came together - including a contingent of claret and blue fans who travelled over from Bulgaria - to offer their support for Stan. Neville Williams, club photographer, was on hand throughout the game and took a host of cracking images. Click here to access the picture gallery. |
