Friday media watch [20.07.12 PM]: Defender Dunne in focus

Setanta Sports: Aston Villa defender Richard Dunne admits he needs to impress manager Paul Lambert if he is to have a future at the club. The 32-year-old is among a number of senior players, including James Collins and Stephen Warnock, who are entering the final 12 months of their deals at Villa Park.

Sky Sports: Robbie Keane, Shay Given and Richard Dunne have been left out of the Republic of Ireland squad for the friendly with Serbia. Republic skipper Keane and Aston Villa pair Given and Dunne along with Wolves winger Stephen Hunt have been omitted from the trip to Belgrade next month, although their absence does not signal the end of their respective careers for their country.

Setanta Sports: Giovanni Trapattoni has named a 23 man squad for the upcoming friendly against Serbia without his four most established players: Shay Given, Richard Dunne, Damien Duff and Robbie Keane. But the biggest shock of the squad announcement is the absence of Stephen Hunt who is the biggest casualty of the Euro 2012 squad while Keith Andrews has been left out as he is suspended for the first World Cup qualifier.

ESPN: Former England striker Emile Heskey could join Championship outfit Ipswich Town, linking up again with his former Wigan manager Paul Jewell, according to reports. Heskey, 34, is a free agent after leaving Aston Villa at the end of last season and is believed to have been approached by the Suffolk club.

Best Of The Rest

BBC Sport: Gareth Southgate is to leave his role as the Football Association's head of elite development. The former England international also says he does not wish to be considered for the new post of technical director.

Sky Sports: Sky Sports sources understand that none of the bids received by Arsenal for Robin van Persie have met the club's valuation. Sky Sports exclusively revealed on Tuesday evening that the Gunners had received a number of offers for their Dutch captain.
