Monday media watch [09.07.12 AM]: More transfer speculation

Birmingham Mail: Paul Lambert has confirmed Brad Guzan will challenge for the No.1 jersey at Villa after explaining his reasons for wanting to re-sign the club's perennial goalkeeping understudy. Guzan is in the process of finalising a new deal after Lambert offered him the chance to revive his claret and blue career despite his release at the end of last season.

Birmingham Mail: Paul Lambert is relishing the prospect of Darren Bent spearheading his Villa attack because boasting a prolific striker to score goals is "half the battle". Lambert got to work with Bent for the first time when the first team squad returned for the start of pre-season training at Bodymoor Heath on Thursday.

Daily Mail: Southampton are the latest club to join the race for £6million-rated Crystal Palace starlet Wilfried Saha. The talented England Under 21 international has attracted attention from a host of suitors in the top flight and abroad, with German club Hoffenheim among those interested. The 19-year-old winger is also a target for Sunderland, Reading and Aston Villa.

ClubCall: Aston Villa and Sunderland are set to battle for Real Mallorca defender Ivan Ramis, who is targeting a move to the Premier League. Both Villa and Sunderland are in the hunt for a new central defender this summer and Ramis is keen on a move to England after turning down the chance to join Everton two years ago.

Sky Sports: Rennes midfielder Tongo Doumbia has confirmed that talks over a move to England are ongoing. Arsenal, Everton and Aston Villa have all been linked with moves for the powerful Malian international.

Best Of The Rest

The Sun: AC Milan are considering a loan move for Liverpool's Andy Carroll.

BBC Sport: Tottenham Hotspur are close to signing defender Jan Vertonghen after agreeing a fee with Ajax.

Daily Mail: Fiorentina have made a fresh bid for Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh.

BBC Sport: France have named former World Cup-winning captain Didier Deschamps as their new manager.
