Lambert relishing start of pre-season training as players return
![]()
Paul Lambert admits he can't wait to get going as pre-season training begins tomorrow morning. Lambert is relishing greeting the players, including Karim El Ahmadi and Brett Holman, as he starts mapping out his claret and blue vision to the first team squad. Lambert says his task is "getting the best out of the players" as they gear up for the 2012-13 term. In a video exclusive on AVTV, he said: "It's been a really long month and I'm really looking forward to tomorrow, meeting the lads and getting to work. That's what we are here for. "I will tell them what I expect and we will give it a right good go. I will certainly need the players to perform. "I will speak to them as a group because they are a group. That's the way it should be. "We want to get the players going and the place going and if we can do that then it will be fine. "There are some really good players at the football club and it's up to us to get the best out of them. "I can't wait. I can't wait to get going. It's a great facility up here. It's a fantastic place to train, for a workplace it's fabulous. "But it's not about the manager, it's about the players. If we can get them to perform and get them going and get them enjoying their football, then great. "I am looking forward to it as an individual but, as I said, it's not about me, it's about the team. "The main thing for me is to get the team fit and get them into a way of playing and get their confidence going and not be frightened by making mistakes. "It's new. There's freshness about it for them." Lambert faced the AVTV cameras at Bodymoor Heath on the eve of pre-season training. You can watch the extensive interview in full on AVTV.
