Merchandising supremo John Greenfield wants Lambert's Limes to sparkle at Upton Park - on and off the pitch!

Villa's first team will debut the vibrant second strip when they face West Ham on the opening day.

The senior stars will look to play bright football and help new boss Lambert get off to a winning start.

And Greenfield has encouraged supporters to snap up the bold kit so they can make a real statement on the terraces too.

Greenfield admits that pre-orders have been "fantastic" thus far, with feedback at the kit launch festival "very positive" to Villa's bold fashion statement for travelling tussles.

Greenfield has praised the sharpness of the fans too after they coined the phrase 'Lambert's Limes' for away games.

He also admitted he loves the new song that will be belted out at matches on the road - "We glow in the dark, we glow in the dark, we're Aston Villa, we glow in the dark" - referencing the lively colours.

He said: "It's fantastic to read about 'Lambert's Limes' on the message boards. First it's great that the supporters have taken Paul so warmly to their hearts and second it's fantastic that they can be so clever with their wordplay in regard the away kit!

"Lambert's Lions, which was coined on our official Twitter page to represent the bold new era under the new manager, has a good ring to it and so does Lambert's Limes which I am sure will become a moniker for the side on away trips!

"It would be great to see the away end at West Ham full of fans in the away kit. They'll certainly stand out from the crowd. It will be hard to miss them!

"I have seen the chant they've made up too about glowing in the dark. That'll certainly be the case at night games!

"We really wanted to bring out a home kit that followed traditional lines and an away strip that was a bit more fun, with a vibrant feel. From the reaction, I think we've achieved those parameters.

"I really feel the fun is returning to Villa Park, which is great to see."

Villa's away kit is available to pre-order now by popping into the Villa Stores at Villa Park or New Street or by contacting 0121 326 1559. It goes on sale on Saturday July 14.

Lambert's Limes look set to be unleashed away at West Ham, Southampton, Sunderland, Liverpool, Arsenal, Stoke and Manchester United, although decisions on the kit colours are made on a week-by-week basis in consulation with the Premier League.

Greenfield also responded to internet queries about the top worn by Barry Bannan on the opening day of the kit launch festival.

Bannan was snapped wearing a classy white top and Greenfield revealed it is one of the many training tops brought out by Macron for the coming season.

It's now available to buy in either Villa Store at Villa Park or New Street along with a plethora of other cracking merchandise items.
