Double delight for Villa in Birmingham ability counts league

Villa have achieved a terrific double in the ability counts league.

Villa's U16s seven-a-side team managed to finish top of the Birmingham-based division, ahead of Kingshurst, Two Rivers, Stratford, Stafford Dragons and Kewford Eagles.

And they managed to emerge victorious in the cup competition too, beating Stratford 2-1 in the final.

Villa meet once a month and play a round-robin format from September through to May.

Villa's U13s side also emerged victorious in their Birmingham-based division and finished runners-up in their age-group final, missing out to Coventry 1-0.

Nigel Macrow, who runs both teams, said: "All the players have performed well this season and it has been a truly great squad effort."

The Birmingham ability counts league is linked to the FA disabled football pyramid.

Villa are under 'Premiership' level, which means that players are able to cope physically, have good levels of spatial awareness and an excellent ability to understand tactics and good level of physical strength and fitness.
