Lambert: I want to get Villa Park really rocking again

By Rob Bishop

Paul Lambert was moved by the reception he received on his arrival at Villa Park to be unveiled as manager - and he has pledged to repay the fans faith with success.

Around 200 supporters gathered outside the stadium to greet the new boss, who really appreciated their attendance.

Now he wants to get the Holte End - and the rest of Villa Park - rocking.

"The fans outside were really nice, which was humbling," he said.

"I will do everything I can to make this club successful.

"The size of the club indicates you have to get the fans going and that's what I will try to do.

"The team and myself will certainly need them. You need the fans right behind you, and we have to give them something as well.

"At the moment there seems to be a really good feeling around the club and I'll do everything I can to get the crowd going.

"The Holte End will be vital to us. That's the traditional end where you get the place rocking - and the rest of the stadium will bounce off that.

"If that happens and we get the team performing then hopefully we will be fine."

Lambert makes no secret of his excitement in taking over the Villa hot seat after guiding Norwich City from League One to the top flight.

"I have my own expectancy level. As long as we can play really well and win more games than not, the crowd will run with it.

"This is an incredible opportunity. When you look at the managers who have been here and the size of the club, it's absolutely vast. But it's not something I'm going to shy away from. I'm going embrace it. I have to try and make it successful."

The new manager had a special relationship with Norwich's players, insisting that he didn't have a single altercation with any them during his three years at Carrow Road.

Now he wants to generate the same feeling at Villa Park.

"I get great satisfaction from seeing players do well as individuals," he said.

"They are the most important people at the club. We have to try and generate that spirit. If you have that togetherness it will be breed confidence and hopefully a bit of success somewhere along the line. All great teams have that togetherness.

"As long as the players are hungry to do well - that's the main thing.

"Everybody wants to see a winning team. If you can do it with style, that's great. But if you can't, but you still win, I'm sure people will still be happy.

"The fan base is huge and we will do everything we can to get on the front foot. I'm aware of the pressure but it's something I will thrive on."
