Carruthers eager for winning feeling in reserves play-off final
Samir Carruthers is desperate to end the season with a winner's medal by defeating Manchester United in tonight's reserve play-off final at Old Trafford.
Carruthers has urged his team-mates to finish off on a high as they go in search of national supremacy against the northern champions.
The 19-year-old midfielder has made the jump from reserves level to the senior ranks over the past month.
But he still wants to help the second string pick up more silverware to add to their Barclays Premier Reserve League South crown.
"You always want to win a final no matter what," said Carruthers.
"It is silverware and you want silverware in your cabinet - that is what everyone wants when they are younger and that is what counts at the end of the day.
"We won the league and we collected a medal the other day but we can't start thinking about the end of the season and saying we had a good season.
"There is one more game to completely finish off the season on a high.
"We won the reserve league and hopefully we can now win the final as well."
Carruthers has already graced the Old Trafford pitch this term when he came on as a late substitute in last month's top-flight defeat.
It gave him the opportunity to come up against one of his footballing idols Paul Scholes.
"Coming on against Paul Scholes was like a dream come true because he has been one of my idols," added Carruthers.
"So coming on against him was one of the biggest honours I could ever have.
"Playing against players like him and Ferdinand was just an honour and I really enjoyed the time I got on there."
There will be live audio commentary of tonight's play-off final on AVTV, while you can also follow all the action through the Villa Live text service.
