Hutton: Spurs clash no grudge match - it's all about survival

By Dan Harrison

Alan Hutton insists helping Villa secure Barclays Premier League safety is the only thing on his mind - not his history with Sunday's opponents Tottenham Hotspur.

Hutton has played down suggestions that the Villa Park showdown will be a grudge match against his former employers.

The Scottish full-back is adamant helping the claret and blues move out of danger is the only thing he is focusing on.

And he hopes Alex McLeish's team will benefit from a strong fan backing in the final home game of the campaign.

"All the boys are my friends and I have moved on now," said Hutton.

"It is just a case of getting the three points.

"In Sunday's game we just want the fans right behind us.

"It gives you that lift to have the crowd totally behind you, especially at such a big stadium like Villa Park.

"We hope it's the case and we put on a good display."

Hutton endured an unhappy return to White Hart Lane earlier in the season as Villa lost 2-0 to Harry Redknapp's team.

On that occasion, the former Rangers star was employed in a less familiar right midfield role.

"Stephen Warnock is playing left midfield instead of full-back at the moment and it just happens sometimes you have to fill in somewhere," he added.

"I'm not sure what happened at their place. It is just one of those things, sometimes you get shifted about."
