Baker: Gabby has prepared me for Suarez challenge

By Paul Brown

Nathan Baker says he's received the perfect practice ahead of facing "slippery" Luis Suarez - battling to stop Gabby Agbonlahor every day in training.

Baker accepts he has a good chance of facing the Reds on Saturday, with Richard Dunne [collarbone] out and Carlos Cuellar [thigh] a serious doubt.

And he's relishing the thought of stifling the Liverpool attack.

He said: "Luis Suarez is a bit slippery and his movement is brilliant so you have got to keep a very close eye on him. We'll certainly work on it.

"But I back myself to cope with most strikers and I'm certainly not afraid of anyone.

"Apart from Gabby of course! I always have a few little battles against him in training!

"He's a top player and again someone who has helped give me some pointers ahead of this game.

"They have Andy Carroll, too of course, who is a big lad but I'm quite a tall guy so maybe that would suit me to play against him.

"It would be a good to face him, I've never played against him at any other level but it would be a battle.

"Hopefully I can play against Liverpool in some capacity. We have obviously been hit by injuries so I guess we'll have to assess them and see what the manager's thoughts are.

"Hopefully there's a chance for me to impress the manager. I want to take that chance. I want to do well.

"It should be a great game. I've not played against them before but you can get a feeling for what they are like from watching them on television and also what the coaching staff show us on the videos.

"I am not someone who gets worked up about big names. I will just keep my head down and focus on playing my own game against Liverpool."

Baker admits his burning ambition is to become a regular in claret and blue for years to come.

He added: "Hopefully I can establish myself at Villa and become someone who plays week-in, week-out in the Premier League for the club.

"I don't want to look too far beyond on that to be honest.

"Obviously I have ambitions to win things and play for my country but I am realistic enough to know I've got to work hard to do that and it will only come through playing regularly for Villa.

"That is the main target at the moment."
