Warnock: We must not be the team to help spark Liverpool revival
Stephen Warnock is expecting an intense battle this weekend - because Liverpool will be determined to bounce back from their worst run in 56 years.
Liverpool have fallen off the pace in the race for the top four after form which has seen them lose six of their last seven games, including consecutive defeats in their last three matches.
Warnock believes this will spur the Reds on as they look to get into their stride, with an FA Cup semi-final against Everton also on the horizon.
The 31-year-old insists Villa must not be the side to help Liverpool spark a revival.
He said: "It will be a tough challenge because it's been Liverpool's worst run in a long time.
"They are going to want to put that right straight away and put that set of results to the back of their minds.
"They have a big calendar coming up too. They have the semi-final of the FA Cup against Everton so they will want to go into that in good form, starting this weekend.
"It's a huge game and we have to be mindful that we can get a result. We need to be positive.
"It's a massive game, with our defeat to Chelsea and the way results went against us in the other matches.
"This game becomes huge now at the weekend. It's almost like a cup final and one we've got to win."
Villa look set to call upon a host of young lions once again, with Carlos Cuellar [thigh] looking set to miss out and Charles N'Zogbia [knee] and Alan Hutton [calf] facing a race against time.
Warnock knows the famous Anfield atmosphere can unnerve many players but he thinks the claret and blue troops will flourish in the Merseyside cauldron.
He added: "When you go to places like Anfield you don't want to sink. You want to get the right result and remember it for the right reasons.
"You want to be saying 'wow what a result in that atmosphere.' That's the best way to go to places like that.
"It was an amazing feeling to beat Chelsea away earlier in the campaign and we want to get that back again. There's no better feeling than that."
