Villa's word on the tweet: Delight at Lichaj's grub and Messi's magic
![]()
Eric Lichaj has continually wowed housemate Andreas Weimann and neighbour Enda Stevens with his cookery skills in recent weeks. Some more of the USA full-back's team-mates were keen to check it out - and the latest dinner get-together at chez Lichaj was eagerly anticipated.
So the pressure was on for the defender but, judging by the reaction of Barry Bannan, he didn't disappoint.
While Villa's rising stars have a great role model in the kitchen, they evidently look up to the right people on the pitch too. Bannan and Weimann were among the millions of football fans marvelling at the magic of a certain Lionel Messi on Wednesday evening. The Barcelona maestro further cemented his position among the game's all-time greats with an astonishing five-goal haul as the Catalans crushed Bayer Leverkusen 7-1 in the Champions League quarter-final second leg. Like many of us, Bannan and Weimann were transfixed.
But it was about to get even better....
Although Villa's Scottish midfielder felt just short with his prediction for Messi's final tally.
Nevertheless, staunch claret and blue supporter Garry Ball - who is also an ardent follower of the club's reserve and youth sides - was on hand to reassure Bannan that there should be no inferiority complex!
Never mind the champions of Europe - 'Gazza' offered this assessment of Barca and Messi's staggering performance to club journalist Dan Harrison.
It is often suggested that the cordial relationship between players and journalists is not as strong as it once was. However, Mat Kendrick of the Birmingham Mail reckons this isn't necessarily the case. He tweeted having been heartened by his interview with Carlos Cuellar at Bodymoor Heath - a further insight in to why the Spanish defender is so popular among fans, reporters and his fellow professionals.
Golfer Rory has no doubt received thousands of congratulatory tweets since claiming the world no.1 spot last weekend. Among those was a message from Villa goalkeeper Shay Given.
