Petrov: N'Zogbia "fully motivated" to flourish at Villa

By Paul Brown

Stiliyan Petrov insists Charles N'Zogbia is "fully motivated" to flourish at Villa.

N'Zogbia was in tremendous form at Blackburn, sizzling on the wing as well as scoring a tremendous opening goal.

It's fair to say N'Zogbia has shown his class in flashes thus far in claret and blue but Petrov is confident fans will see the real deal in the coming games.

He said: "Charles got in a good position at Ewood Park and scored a great goal.

"In the first half he was coming in, he was creating space for us and he was dangerous for the opposition.

"He's motivated to go and show what he's all about. He went through a tough period and now he has started to get back into the position and he's scoring goals which is good for us.

"We will need him for the final 11 games.

"He's a strong character and some people need longer to settle and some need shorter. Maybe it took him longer to settle down but he's finally starting to show what he's all about.

"He's a good lad and he's great to have around.

"It has been frustrating for him that he hasn't been able to fully show what he can do.

"But now finally he is able to show. He's scoring goals and when you start scoring goals that is where the confidence comes.

"We believe in Charles and we believe in every member of that squad and that's why we are united.

"Every player goes through a bad period and that's why we are team-mates who support each other."

Petrov also spoke of his frustration at the point at Ewood Park, pointing to the good first half and indifferent second half as the "story of our season."

He added: "We have said that we can be brilliant and then we can be poor. That was the story of the halves.

"In the first we were outstanding, played great football and moved the ball quickly.

"We put them under pressure and they didn't have any chances.

"But it was totally different in the second half and that was frustrating for everyone.

"Before we went back out after the break, we knew exactly what we needed to do - just keep on playing the way we were.

"I can't put my finger on what happened.

"The thing is, even though we were battling in the second half, we still created four great chances. That would have extended our lead.

"I have said before that clean sheets are very, very important but at the moment we just can't do it."
