Herd on return to action: I'm fit and raring for a first team recall
Chris Herd has put himself in the frame for a first team recall by insisting: "I'm fit and raring to go".
Herd outlined his determination to regain a spot in Villa's starting XI after completing his second outing for the reserves in Monday night's 2-0 win at Swansea City.
The Aussie utility man got 87 minutes under his belt for the second string, following on from his return against West Bromwich Albion at Bodymoor Heath last week.
It was his first match action since December when an ankle injury ended an impressive run of seven straight top-flight starts.
But, after stepping up his match fitness, the 22-year-old is ready to force his way back into contention.
"It was frustrating being out injured after having a good run of games," he said.
"But I am just trying to get back to full fitness so I can get back out there.
"I feel fit and came through the reserve games comfortably.
"My aim is to just keep getting fitter and fitter and get back in the team."
Herd insists he felt in good shape after coming through most of Monday's encounter at the Parc y Scarlets.
"It felt really good," he added. "I am just really enjoying getting back fit and that was my second run-out in the ressies.
"I just tried to play longer than the last game and I came through it and feel fine.
"It wasn't the best of pitches out there but it was a good win and a good performance from the boys."
