Darren Bent will join the Premier League's 100 goals club if he scores against QPR - but he already has his next target in mind.

Bent is one away from joining fab forwards like Alan Shearer, Michael Owen, Thierry Henry and Robbie Fowler on the illustrious list.

But manager Alex McLeish revealed that Bent has been getting a friendly ribbing from his fellow players about the fact strike partner Robbie Keane is already a member of the club.

Keane is on 124 goals, a mere four away from surpassing Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and entering the Top 10.

McLeish said: "It would be great to see Benty get in that 100 club.

"The boys have been kidding him on that Robbie is ahead of him in that particular chart.

"Maybe he has to chase Robbie and make that his next target.

"We're pleased for him that he's close to the milestone. I'd love him to get there soon and join Robbie and all the other illustrious names in there.

"That's the kind of targets strikers look for, to be in those circles and be mentioned in the same breath as the fantastic strikers this country has produced.

"When he breaks in, we will then look for him to improve on it.

"Like every hungry striker I am sure he will look to add to that tally and hopefully he can get a right few more this season.

"He has been in great form and his goal was tremendous against Arsenal. It was great execution.

"And he has worked very, very hard for us in the last two games. His figures are as high as we have seen all season in those two games in terms of his work-rate.

"We saw the rewards we can get as a team in the game against Wolves, with his closing down of defenders and the earning of the penalty from nothing.

"These are extras that strikers can give you."

McLeish revealed that there was never any question of Bent leaving Villa in the transfer window.

He insisted that Bent is now "back on the goal trail" after overcoming some niggling injuries.

He continued: "I have never seen any bad attitude at all or different attitude or feeling low.

"He had a couple of injuries and he was frustrated to not have scored more goals but that's great when strikers feel like that. He's certainly back on the trail now."

McLeish also confirmed Villa were unlikely to be making any signings before the close of the transfer window at midnight.

He added: "I doubt anything is going to happen at this late stage. I can understand the fans are anxious to see new faces, top names, but it's not going to happen here this season, especially in this window."

McLeish was talking as part of his weekly press conference at Bodymoor Heath.
