McLeish: Delph's programme column was "music to my ears"
Alex McLeish believes Fabian Delph is programmed for success - after being delighted with the midfielder's words of wisdom in the Villa News & Record.
McLeish was thrilled to read Delph's in-depth column in the matchday programme because of the determined tone of his comments.
Delph spoke of his delight at being fit again after an injury-plagued first few years in claret and blue - and his desire to make drastic improvements to his game.
That was "music to my ears" according to McLeish.
He said: "There's good competition in the middle with Jermaine coming back to fitness. Chris came in and did a great job and Stiliyan got his goal too.
"That's made the competition much tougher.
"And don't count Fabian out. He played in those eight games for us.
"He's come through a lot. I do admire him and he has to be patient aswell.
"He has to keep trying to improve his game.
"He's an honest guy and he spoke in the programme and that piece was telling me that Fabian thinks he can be much, much better in a Villa jersey.
"That's music to my ears because that tells me we have a young guy who is striving to be as good as he can be.
"He's not down in the dumps or sulking that he's not in the team at the moment. The right reaction is to show us he can be better than anyone else."
