Squad depart for Hong Kong ahead of Soccer Sevens competition
The Villa squad departed for Hong Kong this afternoon ahead of the HKFC International Soccer Sevens.
The travelling party left Bodymoor Heath to catch their flight to the Far East, where they will defend their crown against the likes of Liverpool, Ajax, Celtic, Rangers and Boca Juniors.
A strong claret and blues squad, led by academy director Bryan Jones and reserve team coach Kevin MacDonald, will compete in the prestigious event.
Five of the players involved - Eric Lichaj, Chris Herd, Nathan Baker, Jonathan Hogg and Andreas Weimann - boast Barclays Premier League experience.
Defender Shane Lowry and youth team skipper Daniel Johnson have also been involved with the first team, while 2010 FA Youth Cup finalists Benjamin Seigrist and Ellis Deeney and reserves striker Harry Forrester complete the squad.
The Soccer Sevens action kicks off on Saturday and there will be live interactive text updates on Villa's three group stage fixtures against Hong Kong FC Captain's Select, Eastleigh and Citizen.
On Sunday, the top two teams from each group compete in the knockout stages of the main tournament and the bottom two sides go in to a Plate competition.
And look out for a video tour diary with Villa legend and club ambassador Ian Taylor.
There is also plenty of activity off the field with the Nike 'Be A Pro' series. Budding footballers will be put through their paces by members of the Villa coaching staff, with Tayls as their mentor.
The two winners will then earn a two-week experience with the club at our state-of-the-art Bodymoor Heath training complex.
