Walker hails experienced Young the ultimate role model
Kyle Walker says returning Luke Young is the ideal role model as he looks to continue his progress in the unforgiving Barclays Premier League.
Walker is a big fan of experienced Young - himself a right-back by trade - and insists it's a pleasure to play alongside him in the Villa team.
Young had had a catalogue of injury problems this season but his return to the side at left-back has coincided with an unbeaten run of two wins and a draw from the past three games.
Walker has been a virtual ever-present since his loan move in the transfer window and has impressed the claret and blue faithful.
The 20-year-old paid tribute to Young for offering advice freely on the training fields of Bodymoor Heath and in top-flight tussles too.
He said: "Luke is an international full-back. It's good to work with him and I certainly look up to him greatly.
"Primarily, it's great to have him back around training with the lads because he's had a few injuries this season. It's superb to see him back in action.
"He's someone I look up to definitely. He's a top professional.
"Hopefully he can keep up his good form and I can keep learning from him. He's a top bloke and a great player too.
"I have asked his advice on several occasions. I do ask him 'if this happens, what would you do.' He does help me a lot with that and I'm really thankful.
"It's been a great experience playing with him and playing in the Barclays Premier League generally, of course.
"I have been very thankful to the gaffer for putting trust in me. Hopefully I have proved to myself and the fans that I can play top-flight football.
"I have learnt about discipline and organisation. You have to do things quicker in the top-flight. You have to be switched on.
"People are going to pick you out if you're out of position. They are going to find the weakness and capitalise on it. The smallest mistake can be punished.
"That's the Premier League. It's a harsh league but a great one to play in too.
"You do get your rewards though. I have set up a few goals and scored some too.
"It's a bonus to chip in with goals but I do think I could set up a few more with the positions I get into.
"But I'm learning and hopefully that side of things will improve."
