McAndrew backs youngsters to overturn semi-final deficit
Tony McAndrew insists Villa will do everything possible to overturn the one-goal deficit in tonight's FA Youth Cup semi-final second leg against Sheffield United.
The youth team coach is adamant his players will give it their all at Bramall Lane in order to reverse the 1-0 scoreline from the first leg.
Joe Ironside's strike gave the Blades a slender advantage at the half-way stage of the two-leg tie.
But McAndrew is upbeat about his team's chances of advancing to a second consecutive final.
"It is a semi-final so you've got to go for it," he told AVTV. "Not many people remember losing semi-finalists so let's make sure people remember us.
"It is important that we give it a go and put a performance on. If we put a performance on we'll give anybody in the country a go.
"The plan before the game at Villa Park was to be in the tie when we went to Sheffield.
"At 1-0 down we are still in it but it is going to be a big ask. We will have a good go and see where it takes us. It is a semi-final, a big night - who handles it on the night will have a big bearing on it.
"The lads have had a taste of the semi-final at Villa Park so they should be more comfortable and hopefully the performance will reflect that."
McAndrew wants to see his side play with a higher tempo after failing to score in the first leg despite producing some nice football.
He is confident the young lions have learned from the mistakes made in the Villa Park clash last month.
"We played some decent stuff and if we continue to do that and play with a little bit more of a tempo we'll be ok," said McAndrew.
"We actually played quite well. When you sit there watching and it is happening in front of you, you sometimes don't think you played as well as you did.
"But we actually moved it around well and they didn't have a lot of chances. We were a bit disappointed with their goal - we could have done a little bit better.
"We had some nice build-up play but didn't get anything on the end of it so we will look to do a bit better there."
