All four sides of the stadium cheered as the already-popular Cameroon international made his way out of the tunnel and on to the illustrious playing surface.
Makoun was already well on his way to becoming a cult hero after fans commented positively on the flashy jumper he wore in his exclusive AVTV interview on signing day.
But the all-action midfielder strengthened his appeal with a real rip-roaring entrance on to the field before the game began.
Makoun has this week been handed international clearance - and looks set to be considered for action against Wigan.
Makoun signed for Villa from Lyon in a deal until June 2014 after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.
The 27-year-old midfield ace has now received visa, work permit as well as clearance from the FA and Premier League.
He will train with the team in preparation for the Wigan clash on Tuesday as he eyes action for Villa.
Makoun, who will wear number 17, is expected to do well, according to new boss Houllier.
He said: "Jean is a player who can play in front of the defence as a sitter and defensive midfielder or as a box-to-box midfielder. He has several assets about his game. He is also a very experienced player because he played Champions League football with Lille and Lyon.
"He is a nice guy too. I think he will settle well in the dressing room."
Makoun can't wait to get going now.
He added: "I am thrilled to be here at Aston Villa.
"I am really, really happy and very proud to have joined a great club and I can't wait to get started now everything has been finalised.
"Villa really want to do well and really want to achieve something, so I am really excited to be joining."
